Time flies. We are already at the end of February. Completing the 2nd month of Year 2017. Anyone realized what is coming up next? Both tinkerbellsan and mhryu have something exciting coming up soon in March. So stay tune!

Enjoy the read today and have a blessed week ahead.

Chapter 24.1 – Boss’s Blind Date Notes (Boss相亲笔记)

Ann-Nyoung everyone! The Lunar New Year finally ended. 15 days flown by so quickly. The 15th day of Lunar New Year is also known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day. Anyone of you celebrated the occasion?

Yes, today’s chapter of Boss’s Blind Date Notes (Boss相亲笔记) is brought to you by mhryu. It is with a sadden heart to announce that tinkerbellsan would have to take longer break from translation. Her laptop has fallen terminally ill and is currently in ‘ICU’ with no definite date to recovering yet.

mhryu would also like to use this opportunity to announce that the bi-weekly post would now be reduced to once weekly for now. mhryu has strict timeline to complete several projects within the next 2.5 months. So mhryu would have lesser time to spend on translation.

Ok. What does Yifan and Xiao Bei have in stored for us today? Enjoy the short read today!

Happy Chap Goh Mei (恭祝大家元宵节快乐!)

Happy Chap Goh Mei everyone! 恭祝大家元宵节快乐!

Marking the ending of the 15-days of Lunar New Year celebration, today is also the full-moon of the first lunar month. This festival is popularly known as ‘Chap Goh Meh’, the fifteenth night in the Hokkien dialect.

Chap Goh Meh, also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day is a significant day for the Chinese Community. It is a festival where family will gather together and have dinner together while counting their blessings. Friends will use this opportunity to wish each other ‘best of luck’ for the year ahead while couples will use this opportunity to celebrate their love for each other. For the singles, it is said that ladies will put their name and number on the oranges and throw them into the water / river with the hope that their destiny will find them.

In the Korean Community, Daeboreum (대보름), means Great Full Moon, celebrating the first full moon of the new Lunar calendar. Daeboreum (대보름) is recognized as one of the five traditional Korean holidays.

It is said that in the history, korean farmers will burn the dry grass on the ridges between the rice fields. This is to get rid of insects for the purpose of preparing the new crops that is soon to be planted.

Also a day to be eating healthy for the Korean. Some of the traditional Korean Food to have during Daeboreum (대보름) are:

  • oh gok bap (오곡밥), 5 grains and beans rice made with glutinuous rice, red beans, black beans, millet and sorghum %ec%98%a4%ea%b3%a1%eb%b0%a5

  • Na Mul (나물), assortment of vegetables used traditionally to clean out the dried vegetables stored over the winter
  • Bu reum (부럼), traditionally believed that cracking nuts with hard shells brings meaning to wish for a good health set of teeth in the new year through cracking nuts with teeth
  • Nothing beats having chilled rice wine, wishing for good news throughout the new year, a tradition called gui bal gi sul (귀밝이술)
  • Yak Shik (약식), glutinous rice flavored with chestnuts, dates, pine nuts and brown sugar

Wishing everyone Happy Daeboreum! (정월대보름)

Chapter 23.2 – Boss’s Blind Date Notes (Boss相亲笔记)

And so, I managed to complete the translation of Chapter 23 of Boss’s Blind Date Notes (Boss相亲笔记). As I mentioned before, my translation style is very different from tinkerbellsan. Therefore, forgive me if I had taken out too much fun from this novel.

I am not sure if I would be continuing this translation as I personally find that my translation of Boss’s Blind Date Notes (Boss相亲笔记) is less fun against tinkerbellsan style which sticks more to the original concept of this novel… fun and hilarious!

For the next chapter, I will hand this back to tinkerbellsan. With her busy schedule starting 2017, I hope that she would not keep us readers waiting too long to read about the progress of Yi Fan and Xiao Bei.

Enjoy the read everyone!
